American coloratura soprano Angela Ahıskal has distinguished herself as an artist of many facets, having sung in opera, recital, symphonic and chamber music repertoire, both as soloist and as an ensemble member. She has sung with opera ensembles including Connecticut Lyric Opera, Simsbury Light Opera Co. and Connecticut Concert Opera. Her choral experience includes performances with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, The Manhattan Philharmonic in Carnegie Hall, and as recitalist upon invitation in New York, Connecticut, Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Eskişehir, Konya, and Braga (Portugal). These recitals with titles such as “Whimsy”, “Moon, Stars & Stripes” and “Renaissance Reflections” run the gamut of American, English, French, German and Italian art song and have been received with much acclaim.
Ahıskal has also appeared as soloist all over the world with such esteemed ensembles as the The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (London), the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire Orchestra (Moscow), Presidential Symphony Orchestra (Ankara), Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra and the Istanbul European Choir (Istanbul and Thessaloniki). She sang the national premier performances in Turkey of Samuel Barber’s Knoxville Summer of 1915 and Karl Jenkin’s Stabat Mater. Ahıskal also appeared as soloist in the world premiere of Can Atilla’s Symphony No. 2 “Gallipoli – the 57th Regiment” at the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, where many world leaders were in attendance. She has since performed the piece many times and is to-date, the exclusive interpeter of the soprano solo of this piece. Her voice can be found on the recording of this work with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra on the Naxos Label. A lover of chamber music as well, Ahıskal has been featured in many chamber music programs with ensembles including Hezarfen Ensemble, Ahıskal Baroque Ensemble, Orchestra PrusArt and Mersin University Academic Chamber Orchestra.
She loves every aspect of singing, and also loves to share her knowledge with others. While living in Turkey, she founded the Opera Department at Akdeniz University State Conservatoire (Antalya) and was on the Opera Department Voice Faculty at Ankara University State Conservatoire where she taught voice, Italian and German lyric diction. She has given masterclasses at various universities in İzmir, Konya, Mersin, and Braga (Portugal). She has also maintained a private studio in the USA, Turkey and Germany.
Angela Ahiskal completed her vocal studies in the performance programs at the State University of New York at Buffalo, The Hartt School of Music (Connecticut) and the Center for Advanced Studies in Music (Istanbul). She has been living in Munich, Germany since 2016.
